Another Day In The Studio

STUDIO DANCE PHOTOSHOOTS

Recently we had round 3 of our much loved studio dance sessions. The awesome Ari Studio in Kingsland is our chosen location as it has great light and provides a safe space for kids to demonstrate all kinds of still poses, jumps, kicks and more. Being in the studio we have the advantage of being able to shoot more poses than we would at an outdoor location as we don’t have the weather, cars and the general public to contend with. 

Let’s meet the dancers:

DAPHNE LAKER
11 year old Daphne has been dancing since she was “in her mum's tummy!” She is a dance teacher, so Daphne has been dancing her whole life. She competes in jazz, lyrical and contemporary and her favorite style is lyrical. Her flexibility comes naturally (lucky girl!) and she has the capability to literally bend herself in half! She loves to dance as it's fun, challenging and gives her the opportunity to meet new friends. 

LILY MARIA
Beautiful little ballerina Lily decided to focus on ballet for her photoshoot. She competes in local and out-of-town competitions in ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, musical theater and tap. She says she loves dancing because she can entertain people and be happy, mad, sassy and scary! One fun fact about her is that she loves to eat raw red onion as a snack! I do this too and I thought I was the only one!! 

PARIS-LILY
Paris-Lily has been dancing since she was just 3 years old, that’s 12 years of her life! She does jazz, ballet, tap and contemporary. In both 2021 and 2022 Paris was named Top Dancer at the New Zealand Dance Awards in Christchurch. She loves dancing because she loves being on stage and performing. She says she loves the challenge of learning new things and trying new styles and techniques. Paris is always on the go, she tells us that even when she goes to bed late she can never sleep in!

BRIAR KAY
Briar first began dancing at 6 years old and entered the competitive scene at 7 and a half years old. She started with jazz then ballet and now does hip hop, contemporary and more recently decided to pick up tap at the end of last year. She loves dancing as she can express herself through movement and loves making and supporting friends. She is more commonly known by her nickname, Bk. 

JESS HALL-JUDGE

For the first time in months Jess got up and decided she wanted to do some updated ballet/pointe photos. I jumped at this opportunity as she mostly only works behind the scenes now days. We had fun shooting these images together. 

Jess has been dancing for 15 years now, starting as just a little toddler. She learns ballet, jazz, contemporary and lyrical and competes in troupes with her dance studio. She loves dancing because it is her passion and she has always enjoyed being on stage. Jess only started dancing competitively when she was 12 but wishes she started earlier as she has so much fun!
